Loudmouthman speaks..

August 16th, 2007

I signed up with Peopleized in order to suss out it’s potential in the social networking stakes and decided that it doesn’t matter, it’s kind of fun and interesting in it’s own right – as are the people already registered.

Anyhow, I decided to try my hand at interviewing someone – obviously it had to be someone I know a little about so that the interview could have a theme (they’re the type of interviews I like to read) and that person happened to be Nik Butler (seeing as he’s everywhere at the moment and I kind of know him after all the chats we’ve had about socialset and twitter and the like)
Once he joined, I used the site to create my interview questions and he responded in timely fashion.. It’s a good workout for the brain trying to formulate something interesting and relevant (methinks I need a crash course in how to ask the right questions, I’ve absolutely no clue what slackware and samba are, and Nik..? You didn’t actually answer the third question, is sidestepping a kneejerk reaction now you’re a councillor? *grin*)

This is how the interview looks when pasting the resultant code from the site straight into my post editing page:

Open source and time management

nikbutler Nik Butler aka Loudmouthman on open source and social networks

rosevibe: You’re quite involved with the open source community, can you tell me what first prompted an interest in that?

nikbutler: A very long time ago I was a development manager for a Software company and we used Windows for everything. I looked at slackware and samba at that time and thought. this could change things.

rosevibe: Just how many other projects are you involved in at present and how do you find the time for them?

nikbutler: There is 1 project : The Nik Butler; Loudmouthman Brand.

This involves Ubuntu UK , Blogging, Social networks and MediaCasts.

How do I find time ? Well do one thing after the other and choose only the things which take your plan forward.

rosevibe: You seem very enthusiastic about everything you’re involved with – but which project excites you the most at the moment?

nikbutler: Social Networks and Social Media are moving far beyond where Web2.0 as a concept thought it would go. Just as the internet became something we least expected so Social Media and Networks are changing core concepts of communities.

rosevibe: If you could change just one thing about the world today, what would it be?

nikbutler: Honestly ?

I really dont know what I would change as 1 thing .

Change a big thing and things change and self correct to amend that change. Change a little thing and no one notices enough.

Getting people to understand what needs to be changed would be the thing to change.

Pretty cool huh?

Now go check it out and add me as a friend, I’m thinking I may make this a blog feature *grin* I’ve never done the ‘regular’ feature thing before but if I’m going to get full value from this site I may as well give it the ol’ college try. It will be interesting to see if they ever incorporate video into the site so that you can actually see people thinking of their answers, that’s part of what makes an interview to my mind, but for now I’ll just work on my questioning technique and see how it goes.
