We got back to Manchester sometime around 3am Wednesday morning, I have to say, I missed my pc.. Not because it’s a great pc – far from it, but because it has all my files and bookmarks in situ, which is why today I sat and weeded out all the useless stuff and dead links I’ve bookmarked over the last three years and added both ‘bookmark duplicate detector‘ and ‘Foxmarks bookmark synchronizer‘ to my list of ‘must have’ firefox add ons.
While I was at it I added Gspace because I intend to throw up there all the image and text files I tend to use the most that aren’t already loaded onto my host servers..
Why bother? Because when we move there will not be room for 3 PCs so mine will be going into storage, I do have everything backed up onto an external drive but that’s a pain to port about and I’d rather keep it as a back up not a primary device.
I know, I could have added all my bookmarks to delicious – the thing is.. I’m not comfortable with delicious, I just plain don’t like using it, if I come across anything socialnetworky I’ll tag it but that’s more because I know Nik reads the things, I infinitely prefer filing links away into folders and not messing around with tags, it gets messy trying to sum up a post or a website in one word – I’ll use 3 at the most because after that it gets confusing and you end up with tag lists as long as your arm and.. Meh, I think you get my point.
I know I could also have simply saved my bookmarks as an html file and carry it around with me on a thumbdrive – except my memory is pants and I’d forget the drive. No, I like using the browser; you don’t have to log into anything to use it and it’s literally just right click and save – I’m lazy and that’s easy.
Now tonight all I need to do is clean up the accumulated crap in my folders find a way of porting my version of firefox onto any pc so that it already has the plugins I prefer installed and I’ll be a happy bunny!
Sound like you just need the portable app version of Firefox.

Always keep another back up of USB stuff but its a great way to be portable.
