That's why I believe in Deism. It's such a simple and uncluttered belief when measured against formal religions.

Deism is a religious philosophy and movement that derives the existence and nature of God from reason and personal experience, in contrast to theism (with religions like Judaism, Christianity and Islam) which relies on revelation in sacred scriptures or the testimony of other people.

Basically, believe what you want to believe, but don't put any faith into what somebody else or something else is telling you to believe. If you didn't work it out for yourself or see it yourself, then don't trust it until you can experience it for yourself. Your own mind is the best judge of what makes sense for you and anything or anyone else... including so-called gods.

Hi rosevibe

I've also been thinking a lot about this stuff recently, and have come to the conclusion that traditional religions are built on control and fear.

I am adopting a more Buddhist style of life, and believe that things go up and down, wrong and right, just because they do. There's no great plan, it's up to us to deal with our lives in whatever way we can, I don't believe we can blame or thank any God.

I agree that religion and believing in a God does give a lot of people a lovely feeling of security and comfort and that's great, but I'm afraid that the more I learn the less I believe in any divine intervention.

I feel my comfort and peace in Buddhism

The truth is that I believe in God because I was raised to believe in God. I went to Catholic school from Kindergarten to Grad 11 (Grade 12 was a ugly year that I still haven't forgiven my parents for).

All throughout my schooling the one message that always seemed to be present was the God loves us so much that he would send his only son down to earth to suffer for out sins. My God has always been a loving and caring God.

I just wish someone would tell the so-called religious right about that. Oh and for the record I believe in evolution and that God had a hand that.
